Cyberbullying and Kiana’s Law

  • Cyberbullying is a terrible epidemic that has cast a shadow on the lives of millions of teenagers in America.
  • These acts leave lasting scars that cannot always be noticeable.
  • Cyberbullying is more than just being nasty online; it slowly erodes at a person's confidence and hurts the mental well-being in the most important developmental stage of our lives. The acts of bullying lead to horrific consequences.
  • Kiana Arellano, for example. In 2013, horrendous counts of cyber bullying led to Kiana attempting to take her own life at the young age of 14.
  • She was left paralyzed and later died from her condition.
  • The State of Colorado passes Kiana’s Law in 2015 to make it a class 2 misdemeanor to bully or to harras anyone online.
  • Her tragic story should have never happened, and this epidemic of cyberbullying must be stopped.
  • But in the face of this digital evil, we have hope. By reminding each other of empathy, kindness and supporting our fellow teens, we can help build a brighter, more positive future on social media.
  • We need to empower each other to build confidence for everyone and provide support for those having to deal with this evil.
  •  If anyone may be struggling with cyberbullying, please consider taking a look at the HELPLINES tab on this website to seek the support you deserve.
